5.1

Before designing a CLIL lesson, it is important to reflect on how the lesson will be delivered in practice. Effective teaching is not only about selecting the right content and activities, but also about how they are presented and guided in the classroom. Small details in communication and interaction can make a significant difference in how well students understand and engage with the lesson.

In this chapter, we focus on key elements that support clear and effective teaching. We explore the role of body language, gestures, and visual support in making meaning accessible, as well as the importance of using simple, familiar language. We also consider strategies such as modelling, pre-teaching vocabulary, and establishing classroom routines to guide learners through activities. The aim is to help you plan not only what to teach, but also how to make your teaching clear, supportive, and effective for all students.
