2.1 Evaluating Materials for CLIL Suitability
Finding materials online is easy — knowing whether they are suitable for CLIL is much more challenging. Although the internet offers an overwhelming number of worksheets, lesson plans, and teaching ideas, many of these resources are not designed for primary learners working in a second language. As a result, they may contain linguistic inaccuracies, be too complex, or fail to reflect key CLIL principles.
In this chapter, we focus on how to critically evaluate materials before using them in class. We explore key questions related to linguistic accuracy, age appropriateness, cognitive level, and alignment with CLIL methodology. The aim is to help you make informed decisions about which resources to adapt and which to avoid, always keeping your students’ needs and learning context in mind.
