4.4 Practical Activities for Developing the Four Skills

Integrating the four language skills into CLIL lessons also means providing opportunities for students to practice them in meaningful and manageable ways. Especially with younger learners, activities should be simple, engaging, and supportive, allowing students to build confidence while developing both language and content knowledge.

In this chapter, we present a range of practical, classroom-tested activities that help students practice listening, speaking, reading, and writing in an integrated way. We explore how input skills, such as listening and reading, can be supported through structured and contextualized tasks, and how output skills, such as speaking and writing, can be developed through interactive and creative activities. The aim is to provide you with practical tools that combine learning and assessment, helping you observe student progress in a natural and effective way.
