3.2 Teaching Through Action: Strategies for Engaging CLIL Lessons

Making CLIL lessons engaging means going beyond explanation and involving students actively in the learning process. When children can move, create, explore, and interact, they are more likely to understand and retain both content and language in a meaningful way.

In this final chapter, we explore practical strategies to bring energy and interaction into the CLIL classroom. These include Total Physical Response (TPR), drama and role play, hands-on activities, collaborative tasks, outdoor learning, digital tools, and songs. The aim is to help you create dynamic lessons in which learners actively use and experience language, building confidence and engagement.

Bringing together the key ideas of this module, effective CLIL teaching means creating meaningful, active learning experiences. Building on this, the next module will focus on the four key language skills — listening, speaking, reading, and writing — and how to assess them effectively in a CLIL context.
